State’s Plan to Diversify Economy is Working

Plans to transform the former Ford Wixom Assembly plant into a $725 million renewable energy park anchored by Xtreme Power and Clairvoyant Solar are a testament to Michigan’s aggressive economic diversification strategy. The project is expected to provide up to 4,000 direct jobs and an additional 10,000 supplier and indirect jobs.

Governor Granholm is working hard to make Michigan a center of green manufacturing and it is paying off. For example, last month 12 Michigan projects were awarded $1.35 billion from the U.S. Department of Energy to support advanced-battery and electric-vehicle manufacturing and development. Earlier this summer, GE announced a new advanced technology and training center and several hundreds of high-tech jobs planned for southeast Michigan. All of these projects are major wins for the state of Michigan and take us another step closer to becoming the alternative energy capital of North America.
