Michigan got a big dose of good news when General Motors Co. announced today it will invest $336 million upgrading its Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant for production of the Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric car. Plans to transform the former Ford Wixom Assembly plant into a $725 million renewable energy park anchored by Xtreme Power and Clairvoyant Solar are a testament to Michigan’s aggressive economic diversification strategy.
